The former president of the Venezuelan bank Banesco, Miguel Ángel Marcano, appears to have found a new home in South Florida: a Coral Gables mansion with seven bedrooms, seven bathrooms, an elevator, infinity pool and a spectacular view of Biscayne Bay.
Miami-Dade County records show the property was bought July 19 by MAM Group Real Estate LLC for $7.75 million. The company was registered in Florida June 23 — 26 days before the purchase — and its only listed official is the Venezuelan banker.

After a new state law put limits on how local governments can regulate medical cannabis dispensaries, Coral Gables has taken a step toward banning the businesses in the city.
The City Commission on Tuesday gave initial approval to a citywide ban on shops that sell medical marijuana. It continues the city’s stance that, although Florida voters last fall approved the use of medical marijuana, Gables will not allow dispensaries until they are also allowed under federal law. The council approved a zoning change in 2014 that said dispensaries are not allowed unless the city attorney offers an opinion indicating that federal law has changed. (more…)Read More
WeWork, a global co-working company with three locations in South Florida and others on the runway, announced it will open its first Coral Gables location, WeWork Ponce De Leon, this fall.
The 32,000-square-foot space, located on the first floor and floors 3 through 7 of 2222 Ponce De Leon, will accommodate a community of about 550 members in private offices holding one to 16 people and common desk areas. Like its two WeWork locations in Miami Beach and its recently opened Brickell City Centre site, amenities will include conference rooms, meeting nooks and event spaces, as well as member discounts and other services geared to entrepreneurs and small businesses.
